E50: Why every change leader needs a coach

If we have never led change before,  how can we ensure that we’re going to be successful?  I’ve been getting a lot of questions from leaders around change and how to lead it effectively especially if its your first time.

If you’re a leader you don’t have the benefit of making mistakes, you’ve got to get it right the first and only time! So how can you work towards building the foundation for your own success without the benefit of a “trial and error” period?

Coaching is one of the most useful tools to help leaders identify their own patterns, beliefs and mindset around change. Our failures to lead change effectively will come from our own areas of discomfort so what better way to do that than with a trusted advisor who can help us identify our areas of resistance and help us become more open to change?

I talk a little about the difference between therapy and coaching, and bring up the book Think Again by Adam Grant.
